Welcome back, Chosen Fam! Its Tuesday, which means a new episode of Tell Me Bout It! This week we are continuing our chat on Discipleship with what we are calling "Discipleship 101."
This is a word used in faith often, but what exactly does it mean? Even more important, how does it apply to us?
In this episode we dive into two very influential definitions of Discipleship (being both a student and an adherer) and the cornerstone verses from Jesus Himself on what it means to be a disciple.
Here's some highpoint notes from our chat to take away and reflect on:
- Discipleship is not a “Program” its a process,
- Discipleship is not Christ just being one part of your identity or life, its about Him consuming every aspect of your identity and life. He becomes immeshed in who we are.
- Is Jesus your Lord?
- Do you believe what the Bible says?
- Are you okay with submitting to the commands, teaching and lifestyle of Christ?
And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
