Hello beautiful people!
You probably don’t know me, my name is Lilli! I’m Sarah’s little sister:) I’m so thankful that I have been given the opportunity to write for this wonderful blog. It’s been so amazing watching Sarah and Liz’s beautiful friendship blossom into what it is now- a ministry uplifting women alike with the same goal, to be better disciples for Christ.
I wanted to use my writing space today to talk about something that isn’t touched on enough—comfort. Who dislikes being comfortable…none of us, right? Our brain is literally wired to take every possible step towards being comfortable. For you, this could look like being comfortable in your job, school, sports team, or even hiding in the shadows where no one can see you. For myself, I find my comfort in being liked by everyone. As long as I seem like this “perfect Christ-follower” to everyone who knows me I’m fine, right? But the fact of the matter is, there is no “perfect Christ-follower.” If there was, we wouldn’t need Jesus. In Mark 2, the Lord says,
“I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
I feel like there’s a misconception that once we are saved, our lives will be smooth sailing, and we will never encounter hardships. It’s actually the exact opposite. Giving your heart to Jesus is the first step, trusting Him with your everyday life is the next. It’s so simple to trust Jesus when everything is going just fine and dandy in our lives, but He calls us to call upon HIM even when it seems there’s no hope. When I think about this, I think back to the story in the Bible when Jesus called Peter to step out of HIS own comfort zone and walk on water with Him in Matthew.
“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”
“Come,” he said.
Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”
Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”
Matthew 14:28-31
I notice new things in this passage every time I read it. One thing I’d like to point out is that Jesus never forced Peter to get out of the boat. In Peter’s own free will, he chose to step out of the boat. And in that decision, God was faithful to honor it. Another thing is, once Peter took his eyes off of Jesus for even a second, he began to sink. Only when his eyes were focused on Him did he continue to do the impossible.
I want to encourage y’all to check your hearts today. Are you living in the comfort of your own “boat”? Are you waiting for God to ask you to step out? Or are you willing to say “God, I’m ready if you are willing.” Stepping out of our earthly comfort zone and walking in the truth that Gods freedom is in is when we can truly live. Keep your eyes on Him, and He will keep you afloat.
I love you all so much and i’m so thankful to be here.
xoxo
